4 Days Trekking to the summit of Mount Toubkal with a guide in Imlil

Overview

The Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains has become a popular destination for trekkers. The two-day trek to the summit typically starts with an easy walk from Imlil along the Mizane Valley to Aremd Village and the Muslim shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. This is followed by a tougher ascent to the Toubkal Refuge, taking around five hours in total. Most trekkers aim to start early the next day for the 3-hour climb to the summit on a rocky scree-covered path. The view from the summit is breathtaking, offering a panoramic vista of the Atlas Mountains and, on a clear day, the Sahara. The descent back to Imlil takes around five hours.

Tour Plan

Upon arrival in Marrakech, you will be transported to the charming village of Imlil. Spend the rest of the day exploring the area and settling into your guesthouse where you will spend the night.

On Day 2, we will commence our trek by heading towards the Ait Mizane Valley. As we trek through the valley, we will pass by Aremd village before reaching the Sidi Chamarouch shrine. The journey then proceeds further east and takes us across the flood plains. We will be walking along mule tracks and ascending the rocky cliffs above the valley. After crossing the river, we will reach the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, which is a famous tourist and pilgrimage site. We will continue our journey, steadily climbing up the trail which meanders through zigzags until we reach the snowline and finally, the Toubkal Refuge (3206m), where we will spend the night. This trek will take us around 4 to 5 hours to complete.

We will start early in the morning to reach the summit of Jebel Toukbal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. The route follows the south cirque and involves crossing a stream above the refuge. The hike is moderately challenging due to the scree and high altitude. However, the stunning views along the way make the journey worth it. Upon reaching the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking vistas across the surrounding landscape, including the Marrakesh Plain, High Atlas, Anti-Atlas, and Sahara. After enjoying the view, we will retrace our steps back to the Toubkal Refuge and then head towards Imlil, where we will be transferred back to Marrakech. The trek is expected to take approximately 9 hours.

On the final day of the trip, you will have some free time to explore Marrakech before being transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
