A Magical 10-Day Journey Through Morocco’s Sahara: the crossing of the desert


The adventure to explore the diverse southeastern region of Morocco commences with traversing the imposing High and Anti-Atlas mountain ranges, followed by a journey through the longest valley in the country, the Draa Valley. The Draa Valley boasts numerous kasbahs, which further enrich the journey. Upon crossing the valley, we will enter the vast sea of sand, which marks the beginning of our trek on the Paris-Dakar trail. This awe-inspiring journey through the desert offers a fascinating insight into the distinct cultures and traditions of the Ait Atta Berber and Saharawi Arab communities.

Arrival in Ouarzazate and transfer to your hotel.

Starting our journey early in the morning into Morocco's hinterland and crossing over the majestic Anti Atlas Mountains via the Tifntite Pass, standing tall at an altitude of 1700 meters; finally reaching M'Hamid - a city that opens doors for us to explore beyond - The Desert, then our next stop after descending down from Draa Valley would be to see the Thousand Kasbahs, followed by a visit to Tamgroute village, which is famous for its beautiful pottery making. Visiting and leaving immediately after to join M'Hamid is a possibility, Experience local cuisine during lunchtime and then rendezvous at the starting point for an adventure-packed hike alongside our experienced team of camel drivers. Spend an enjoyable musical evening around flickering flames before retiring for the night to either canvas walls overhead or sparkling stars.

A trip to Erg Zmaila awaits us after breakfast, which will be followed by a relaxing break with lunch under the cool Tamaris tree shades. Following that, we will journey towards our bivouac place, surrounded by stunning sand dunes, where we can opt to sleep under the sparkling sky or within comfortable tents, and spend an evening listening to nomadic rhythms around a cozy campfire.

After having breakfast for energy, we embark upon a journey across the vast expanse known as the "sea of sand" until we come to rest at Erg ZAHAR which happens to dominate one of Morocco's most delightful deserts. Refuel quickly with lunch on spot, then appreciate the rest of daylight hours in this enchanted scenery region before sneaking off to ascend silently towards a giant dune top where you can witness magnificent sunset views for yourself! So, you can end it all while enjoying the night around a warm crackling fire while having scrumptuous hearty sand bread.

Following breakfast at Erg Zahar, we depart from this enchanting desert and make our way to Erg Essmar, which used to be the village of M'Hamid in the 1970s but now stands deserted. We have lunch there, and afterward, you will have half a day to shower at the well. We will spend the night at Erg Essmar.

After breakfast, we leave Erg Ait Ounir and continue our journey to Ras Nkhal. We will walk up the Draa valley to Boughabra, where we will have lunch. Following lunch, we will reach the bivouac at Erg Ait Ounir. The night will be filled with the ambiance of nomadic songs and sand bread.

After breakfast, we set off to join Erg Lbour on the other side of the Draa valley. We will have lunch under the shade of tamarisk trees and then head off to the evening bivouac at Erg Lbour, where there will be entertainment and sand bread.

After breakfast, departure to join M'Hamid quietly through the small tamarisk forest to reach the bivouac point near M'Hamid. Evening around the fire and this is your last evening with the camel team.

We leave M'Hamid and the Moroccan desert to reach Ouarzazate quietly. Lunch in Zagora then departure after the meal to join Ouarzazate. Night at the hotel.
