8-Day Hiking Adventure : Exploring the Remote Landscapes of Southern Morocco
Overview
The Moroccan confines, it is the country of the tribe of Aït Atta of the Sahara, the first oases after the sixty-day caravan coming from Timbuktu. This journey in the heart of the great ergs of the oued Drâa allows one to feel the atmosphere of the first days of these long meharees, these human adventures which linked the south to the north during centuries. Starting from Ouarzazate, we head towards Zagora, then M’Hamid, before joining the camel team for six intense days: in the heart of the Saharan immensities, we lose all reference points, and solitude and silence are the order of the day, with the Great Bear to “light up” the nights.

Tour Plan
Arrival in Ouarzazate. Transfer to the hotel.
Departure for the Drâa Valley and its long ribbon of palm trees, which stretches for 200 km. Passing through Zagora, we arrive in the palm grove of M'Hamid. Loading of our camels and beginning of the hike between cultures and palm trees. Bivouac after M'Hamid El Rhizlane.
The cliffs of the Drâa Hamada in the south, we progress towards the first erg of Aït Ounir. A few tamarisk trees provide us with some shade before the bivouac.
Still on the left bank of the dry wadi of Drâa, we take the high dunes of the Erg Zaher as a reference. Bivouac at the foot of the dunes.
Crossing of the bed of the Drâa and lunch in the shade of the Sidi Taïb tree. Bivouac between the ergs of Sedrat and Essmar.
The hamada of the Drâa fades in the heat mists, while the black barrier of the Djebel Bani becomes clear. Leaving the wadi El Attach (the river of thirst), we join our bivouac at the Erg Bouguern.
Short walk (1h) and meeting with the vehicles. Lunch at a restaurant near Zagora then arrival in Ouarzazate. Night at the hotel.
